What will I study?
The Diploma in Criminology is
an exciting and interesting introduction to criminology through applied learning i.e. through gaining knowledge and understanding in purposeful contexts linked to the criminal justice system. You will study four units over the two-year course.
The first, ‘Changing awareness of crime’, explores different types of crime, influences on perceptions of crime and why some crimes are unreported. The second, ‘Criminological theories’, explores theoretical explanations for why people commit crime. The third, ‘Crime scene to courtroom’, provides you with an understanding of the criminal justice system from the moment a crime has been identified to the verdict. You will develop the understanding and skills needed to review the justice of verdicts in criminal cases. The final unit, ‘Crime and punishment’ explores the effectiveness of social control to deliver criminal justice policy.
