Key Stage 4 Maths
KS4 Curriculum (GCSE 2017 onwards)
Years 9 to 11
At GCSE, pupils will follow the Edexcel GCSE (9-1) in Mathematics (1MA1), see pages 13 – 15 for a good overview of the course.
All pupils will be following a scheme of learning for the Higher Tier (Grades 4 – 9) up to and including Year 10. There may be a few pupils in each year group that will benefit from studying at Foundation level, so will transfer to the Foundation scheme of learning (Grades 1 – 5) to support them with getting the Grade 4 – 5 in their exams.
Set 1 students have the opportunity to study an additional AQA GCSE course in Further Mathematics. The majority of students taking this additional qualification are expected to gain the new GCSE grades 7 to 9. Pupils taking Further Maths will receive guidance and support in and may need to complete work outside of lessons to complete the course.
All students use the Collins GCSE Higher Mathematics text (4th Edition) in class, with extension and additional problem.
At the start of Year 9 pupils will be given the opportunity to purchase the CGP revision guides at a cost price to support their learning throughout their GCSE course. This will feature as an invaluable revision aide as well as provide pupils with a learning summary for the course.
