Appreciating the world we live in

Our second World Music & Culture Day did not fail to disappoint with a burst of colour, an array of tastes and also sounds from all around the Globe.

To celebrate the incredible diversity of our school community we held our second World Music & Culture Day during June.  With a vibrant mix of music, dance, costume, food and cultural displays, an amazing 39 different national backgrounds were represented.

Students not taking part visited the stands during the day to find out more about the range of nationalities.

One student, Dikshitha - Year 8, reviewed the event and said, "It gave everyone the chance to learn about different traditions, languages, and ways of life from around the world.  It was great to explore them and learn new things while having fun with friends. The performances were also a highlight of the day. Students shared music, dances, and presentations that reflected their cultural backgrounds. Another memorable part of the event was the food. We had the opportunity to try a variety of dishes from different countries, which helped us experience cultures in a new and enjoyable way. Many students discovered new foods that they had never tasted before. Culture Day brought the whole school together and created a positive atmosphere where everyone felt included. It reminded us of the importance of respecting and appreciating different cultures and traditions."

Leila from Year 10 also commented, "World Music and Culture Day was a great opportunity for me to represent Lithuania and share my culture with the school.  We set up a stall with information, facts, and lots of food!  A lot of people came to look, and I enjoyed explaining the traditions and answering questions.  One of the highlights was performing a Lithuanian folk dance. It was nerve‑racking at first, but once we started, it felt exciting and rewarding.  People seemed interested and supportive, and it made me proud to show something meaningful from my heritage."

"It was like nothing I had ever seen before," added Isabelle, one of our Year 7 students.  "There were so many different cultures all together.  I thought England's stall was really interesting and it had some really good games and food.  I also loved the Netherlands and Indian stalls because the food was great and the Indian performances I saw on the stage were incredible.  I learnt a lot about what types of food you get in each country, the geography and the overall history of the countries.  This school welcomes so many different cultures and it was amazing to see them all together in one single room. "

Our thanks go out to Mr Garbett, Head of Music, who organised the day and also to our Music Prefects who helped  to make it a huge success.
