Key Stage 3 Art & Design

Key Stage 3


Students have three lessons a fortnight in Y7 & and two in Y8.  They explore the visual elements which are line, tone, colour, form, shape, pattern, texture and composition in various ways from a range of starting points and through a range of media and processes. During this time they are introduced to the concept of a creative journey and are gradually given the opportunity to develop and express their own ideas and to build their confidence. As an integral part of the course students are introduced to a range of past and present practitioners within a broad field.

Year 7
Term 1&2: Line, exploring natural forms. Tone, exploring geometric forms and depth.
Term 3&4: Colour, including a gallery trip to the Tate Modern.
Term 5&6: Development of colour through still life-Exam project. Exhibition review. Practical response to exhibition.

Year 8
Term 1&2: Multi cultural shape, pattern and colour. Composition-lino prints. Mixed media piece, including skills workshops. Y8 arts day.
Terms 3, 4 & 5: ‘My Life Story’ –illustration/animation/photography. Skills workshops. Exam project.
Term 6: Exhibition review. Personal practical response

Year 9
Terms 1,2,&3: ‘Walking in my mind'GCSE style project. Arts day.
Term 4 &5:GCSE question starting point- exam project.
Term 6: Exhibition review. Personal practical response.
